Vehicle
The project Vehicle addresses engine topics, which are directly linked to the vehicle, and any topic, that is part of the vehicle system surrounding the engine (the 'periphery' – mostly the fuel system. For our global objective (to make the hydrogen engine fit for the real life), it is of utmost importance, to include the interaction of the engine and the vehicle into the research programme. There is, therefore, an individual project connected to these topics.
The type and usage of the vehicle defines the load demand of the engine: Torque, share of high load operation and idling, dynamics, cold start, just to name a few. The design of the engine and the layout of the entire system will depend heavily on the individual load demand.
In Vehicle we consider concrete use cases (i.e. vehicles) as background for a more experimental, result-oriented development. The strong focus on an economic design is eased for the benefit of maximum technical functionality. In Vehicle, we want to make things as good as necessary, but at the same time as practical and useable as possible.
